So You Think You Can Dance Playlist

One of my favorite shows, even though it is reality tv, is So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD).  This season has come to an end and the winner, Melanie, was definitely one of my favorites throughout the show.

This is her G Series campaign for Gatorade...

I love a lot of things about this show.  I took dance classes through elementary and middle school.  When I was in high school I was on the pom squad (or the dance team).  This allows me to really appreciate the difficulty of what the dancers are doing.  I also love the choreography created on the show and the music the choreographers select.  Each season I make a list of all the songs I love, either because of the dance or the music itself, and then narrow them down to a playlist.  Then I burn CD’s for all my SYTYCD loving friends and family! Here is this season’s play list…

  1. Runaway Baby by Bruno Mars (danced by Miranda & Robert)
  2. Turn to Stone by Ingrid Michaelson (danced by Melanie & Marko)
  3. Forget You by Celo (danced by Alex & Sasha)
  4. Turning Tables by ADELE (danced by Caitlyn & Mitchell)
  5. Fade Into Me by David Cook (danced by Tadd & Jordan)
  6. I Got You by Leona Lewis (danced by Melanie and Marko)
  7. Memories by David Guetta (danced by Jordan & Tadd)
  8. Americano by Lady Gaga (danced by Melanie & Marko)
  9. Just the Way You Are by Boyce Avenue (danced by Jess & Clarice)
  10. Take another little piece of by Janis Joplin (danced by Caitlyn & Mitchell)
  11. Misty Blue by Dorothy Moore (danced by Sasha & Twitch)
  12. The Lonely by Christina Perri (danced by Jess & Katherine)
  13. Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Adler (danced by Melanie & Neal)
  14. Take a Bow by Rihanna (danced by Jess & Lauren)
  15. Another One Bites the Dust by Queen (danced by Tadd & Lauren)
  16. Fool of Me by Me’Shell Ndegeocello (danced by Sasha & Kent)
  17. Inside these Lines by Trent Dabbs (danced by Ricki & Jamie)
  18. Drop it Low by Kat Deluna (danced by Caitlyn & Pasha)
  19. Shine by Sharif Iman (The boys goodbye song)
  20. Waiting Outside the lines by Greyson Chance (the girls goodbye song)
What was your favorite dance or song this season?

Fill in the Blank Friday

Happy Friday! It's finally the end of the week and I am ready to link up and get my blanks on...

1. One of life's most simple pleasures is.... A foot rub. Long or short there is nothing better at the end of the work day, especially for those of us who have to wear heels.

2. traffic makes me want to punch someone. I can't stand traffic, mainly morning rush hour. There is not enough coffee in the world to make it tolerable.

3. I like my husband because... He is sweet to me even when I am not sweet back.

4. twitter pated is a funny word.

5. If I had to choose one beauty product to use for the rest of eternity it would be... Precipitation extra from Origins. It's is my favorite lotion to handle my crazy dry, eczema skin issues.

6. I'm happy that... It's Friday!

7. I would never.... Use the word never. I try to avoid using definitive words like, never, always, every. I change my mind and opinion to often to qualify things in such a limiting way. I also think situations and decisions depend on the specific surrounding circumstances and should not be lumped together.

Happy weekend!

Introducing Our Dogs

I have not blogged about our furry babies yet and I think it is time to introduce them. They are both rescue dogs. First we got Bella, a German shepherd, when she was about 1 1/2. She had been thrown out of a truck on a country highway and dislocated a hip. 5 days later at a rescue she had 6 puppies. Her hip healed on it's own and it does not hurt her, but one of her hind legs is about 2 inches shorter than the other. This gives her a special swagger!

Next came Mo, a black lab, and he's was about 1. Mo had been found by a Heartland Lab Rescue volunteer ties up outside a PetSmart. He had been shot in one of his hind legs. The Heartland vet said the injury was too old to save the leg. Thus Mo became a happy, healthy 3 legged lab.

We had not intended to get a second dog so quickly, but Bella and Mo bonded instantly and we just could not separate them...

Here they are just a few days ago, at 3 1/2 and 3, enjoying their new bed...

Tell me about your pets.... Are any from a rescue?

Book Club: The World According to Garp

this month we read and discussed the World According to Garp by John Irving.  I did finish the book, but it was touch and go for awhile.  It is a pretty long book.

I have read other books by John Irving and really enjoyed them so I was looking forward to this book.  I really enjoyed A Prayer for Owen Meany.

However, when it came to Garp I had a hard time identifying with any of the characters.  I am not sure that in the end I really liked any of the characters that much.  Don’t get me wrong they are very interesting characters, and it is an interesting story.  But not my favorite John Irving novel.

The discussion was good.  The story had many interesting turns and characters to talk about.  I think some of the ladies really loved it and others ended up where I was… lack luster about Garp.

I am really looking forward to the next book… The Help by Kathryn Stockett.

Fill in the Blank Friday

Happy Friday!  It’s finally here!  This week has been so busy and exhausting.  I feel like I crammed a month of work into one week.  I hope your week was less hectic than mine.  Lets join http://thelittlethingswedo.blogspot.com/ for Fill in the Blank Friday…

  1. My Idea of pure perfection would be… If everyday could a Saturday!
  1. Love makes the world go ‘round.
  1. If it weren’t for student loans I’d… start a new career as a personal organizer or maybe become a certified nutritionist and personal trainer.
  1. Bloggers are… people like everyone else with something to say, and they choose to say it in writing online.
  1. If I had the winning lottery ticket I’d buy you… out of all your debt (student loans, cars, mortgage, credit cards, and throw in a shopping spree.
  1. I’m glad it’s Friday because… the week after a vacation is so crazy!
  1. Something I’m excited about is… Football Season! Boomer Sooner!!

What I'm Loving Wednesday

Happy Wednesday! I hope you are having a great week. It has been hard to be back at work, but I have been staying very busy and that helps. Let link up and see what everyone is loving this week at This Kind of Love with Jamie.

I'm loving... Napa Valley! Bond and I had so much fun on our vacation. It was so beautiful and We will definitely go back!

I'm loving... Being home and getting back into our routines. I love vacation, but Bond and I do not take relaxing vacations. We are on the move every second seeing and experiencing everything we can. This means I am pretty tired when I get back, but it is so worth it!

I'm loving...The new season of Project Runway. I came home from vacation to two episodes on the TiVo, and it just keeps getting better and better. Make it work!

I'm loving... As always my amazing husband!

Napa Valley

I am back from my much needed vacation.  Bond and I had an amazing time, especially with the two couples that traveled with us.  We spent one day in San Francisco.  We drove Lombard Street which is a steep block that has 8 tight turns surrounded by beautiful gardens.  We took these amazing pictures there…

Then we parked near Fisherman’s Wharf, pier 39 and walked down to pier 33 for our adventure to Alcatraz.  A short, thank goodness because I get sea sick, ferry ride later and we were on the island exploring.  We did the audio tour of the cell house and explored a bit too.  I especially liked the rec yard…

Below was where the prisoners had a baseball diamond once upon a time...

This one is the steps leading up to the dining hall and entrance to the main cell area.

And the view from the top of the steps, that must of taunted the prisoners…

We of course stood in the cells.  They were so small, even at my 5'3" my arms were long enough that I could touch both walls at the same time.

After the tour we went back to the mainland and picked up a family friend who took us to an amazing Indian restaurant, Chutney in the Tenderloin.  After that it was off to the Giants game.  We were really lucky, the weather in San Francisco was so mild, it even got into the 80’s during the day.  The game was a bit cooler, but with the great new sweatshirt and hat I bought, there were no problems.

We spend the rest of the time up in the wine country.  We stayed at a time share in Windsor, which is between the Russian river valley and Alexander valley.  Napa Valley vineyards were about a 45 minute drive.  On the days we went over to Napa Valley we packed snacks and picnic lunches so no one went on an empty stomach.  In total we visited 9 wineries in Napa Valley and 1 brewery.  Then we went to 5 in the Alexander and Russian river valleys.  My favorites were Duckhorn, Jessup Cellars, Frank Family Vinyard, Trentadue, Ferrari Carano, and Kendall Jackson.  But they were all so beautiful.  Check out these views…

I decided for souvenirs I would collect stone coasters on this trip from San Francisco and the wineries I liked.

I guess I liked a lot of them!

The group also spent a morning hiking the Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve.  It was beautiful.  We got there early to take pictures and it was so quiet.

Then we hiked two of the steep trails and got some great views…

Overall it was a wonderful vacation!

Where did you go on vacation this summer?
